Your Plumbing Radiates Electromagnetic Radiation!

Few people consider that their water pipes are sources of electromagnetic fields (EMFs), but quite often they are. In fact, in numerous cases where a home has suspiciously high EMF readings, the culprit can be metal water pipes - sometimes even more so than nearby power lines!

How does EMF Contamination happen?

Often, poorly grounded power lines produce ground current. This chaotic, unbalanced current creates a powerful magnetic field that can cover a surprisingly wide area.

Ground Currents Are Bad!

Ground current means the current that flows along buried metallic water pipes (whether water is flowing through them or not).

Buried metal pipes act like antennae for these sorts of fields. When you turn on your water, you won’t get a shock, of course; the system is set up to guard against your becoming electrified no matter how poorly grounded nearby power lines are. Unfortunately, there are no such safeguards against the magnetic fields.

Electromagnetic field (EMF)

It’s important to remember that an electromagnetic field (EMF) has two components:

• The electrical field: is the component of an EMF that can be blocked (measured in Hertz)
• The magnetic field: the component of an EMF that can go through virtually anything: brick, metal, human body. (e.g. for x-rays.) that’s measure in MilliGauss.

Water Pipes: A Major Source of EMFs.

According to The World Health Organization International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC):

There are three major sources of electric and magnetic fields in homes: multiple grounded current-carrying plumbing and/or electric circuits, appliances and nearby power lines (including lines supplying electricity to individual homes).

The magnetic fields in the home that arise from conductive plumbing paths were noted by Wertheimer et al. (1995) to “provide opportunity for frequent, prolonged encounters with ‘hot spots’ or unusually high intensity [magnetic] fields.

Many health issues can be traced to the radiation from magnetic fields, from stress and sleeplessness to hormonal disorders to high blood pressure and many cancers.

In one study, “Childhood Cancer in Relation to Indicators of Magnetic Fields from Ground Current Sources,” scientists noted that; “The associations of cancer with conductive plumbing suggest that cancer risk is increased among persons with elevated magnetic field exposure from residential ground currents.” (Nancy Wertheimer, David A.
